Biography

K. Ajith Joseph is the Principal scientist and Executive Director of Nansen Environmental Research Centre - India (NERCI), a non-profit Scientific and Industrial research Organization recognized by Ministry of Science and Technology. He has more than eighteen years of research including ten years of project management experience with Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and NERCI, through various projects funded by Govt. of Kerala, ISRO, DST, UNEP, European Commission and Norwegian Research Council (RCN). Dr Joseph is also the project manager of Arctic Cooperation Project funded by RCN on Earth Observation in Arctic Shipping between Norway, Russia, US, India and China. Prior to that he was the project manager for the RCN Project to study the Decadal to multi-decadal variability in the Indian Monsoon Rainfall and teleconnection with Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), a joint study of observed and modeled variations in Climate in India. He holds a PhD in Physical Oceanography from CUSAT, and serves as an adjunct faculty at Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS). He is also a recognized research guide at the faculty of Ocean Science and Technology and also at the Ocean Engineering. His research interest is in satellite oceanography and implementation of numerical ocean models for the Indian Ocean.
