Walid Chakroun, PhD

Biography

Walid Chakroun is a full Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kuwait University. He receives his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Youngstown State University in 1986. He earned his M.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1987 and his Ph.D from Mississippi State University in 1992. His research interest has been in experimental and numerical thermal and fluid sciences, thermal solar energy in general and in indoor air quality, cooling energy efficiency, alternative refrigerants and residential air-conditioning in particular. Prof. Chakroun has authored and co-authored more than 75 Journal articles and conference papers. He also co-authored a book on An Experimental Course in Thermal Engineering. At Kuwait University, Prof. Chakroun served earlier as Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department, College of Engineering Petroleum, and as Assistant Vice president for Academic affairs. In ASHRAE, Prof, Chakroun served earlier as Director for Region At Large and as Vice President for ASHRAE society. He is currently serving as a Liaison coordinator between ASHRAE and UNEP. He is also a member of the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force that provides recommendations for providing safe and healthy air-conditioning during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is the recipient of the prestigious ASHRAE John F. James Award, Distinguished Service Awards, and Exceptional Service Award.
