Jeff Doebrich

Chief, Africa and the Middle East - USGS Office of International Programs

Biography

Jeff Doebrich has been an economic geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for the past 35 years. Jeff received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Colorado School of Mines. His research has focused on a variety of mineral resource issues in the Great Basin of the western United States, in Central Asia, and in the Middle East. In the 1980’s and 1990’s Jeff served two tours of duty with the USGS Saudi Arabian Mission, including one as Mission Chief Scientist. Jeff has coordinated large regional mineral resource assessments in the Great Basin and Central Asia, including the USGS mineral resource assessment of Afghanistan from 2004 to 2006. In 2010, Jeff led the overall USGS effort in Iraq, a multidisciplinary effort involving mineral and water resource studies, establishment of an agro-meteorological network, and creation of a national spatial data infrastructure. For 10 years, from 2006 to 2016, Jeff was the Deputy Program Coordinator for the USGS Mineral Resources Program. Since January 2017, Jeff has been the Chief, Africa and the Middle East, for the USGS Office of International Programs.
