Prof. Laura McCullough

Biography

Professor McCullough is a Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where she also served as Department Chair until 2014. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Physics from Hamline University, and a Masters of Science in Physics from the University of Minnesota. She also received her doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota in Science Education with a focus on Physics Education Research. Her primary research is on gender in science and surrounding issues, a topic which she is frequently asked to speak on, especially in relation to gender and context issues in assessment. She has also done significant work on women in leadership, and on students with disabilities, with the support of a major grant from the National Science Foundation.

Professor McCullough has published articles in the Journal of College Science Teaching, the Journal of International Women’s Studies, and The Physics Teacher, among others. In 2016, she published a book called "Women and Physics" published by United Kingdom Institute of Physics and served as the lead on development of the Gender Bias in Physics website in 2017. She has received numerous awards for her contributions, such as, two Outstanding Educator Awards from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2003 and 2015, as well as the Merle Price Faculty Award of Excellence from the University in 2006. She has also received the Chancellor's Leadership Development Award for Women from the University of Wisconsin-Stout Chancellor's Office in 2008, and, more recently, served as the United States Delegate to 6th International Conference on Women in Physics in 2017.
