Nesreen Ghaddar, PhD

Professor of mechanical engineering and the director of the Munib and Angela Masri Institute of Energy and Natural Resources at the American University of Beirut (AUB)

Biography

Nesreen Ghaddar is a full professor of mechanical engineering and the director of the Munib and Angela Masri Institute of Energy and Natural Resources at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She received her Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Kuwait University, her master’s and PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Her research is focused on sustainable air-conditioning with renewable energy integration, personalized ventilation, bioheat modeling, body cooling methods, thermal comfort, indoor air quality, and building energy performance, hybrid cooling and power systems to meet building needs. She has been instrumental in establishing specialized and interdisciplinary educational programs and labs related to HVAC in building energy systems, energy studies as well as the first online green technologies diploma at AUB that started in 2015 in three concentrations of energy, buildings, and water. Dr. Ghaddar received the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers (Green Engineering) for 2013. In 2014 she was listed by Muslim Science among the top-20 Most Influential Women in Science in the Islamic World described as the Shaper of Energy Future, Kuwait and Lebanon. She is also a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASHRAE, the Islamic World Academy of Sciences; and the Lebanese Academy of Science.
