Dr. Nagwa El-Badri

Professor and Chair of Biomedical Sciences - Zewail City of Science and Technology

Biography

Dr. El-Badri is the Founding Chair of the Biomedical Sciences Programs at the University of Science and Technology, and the Director of the Center of Excellence for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at Zewail City of Science and Technology. She received her medical degree, with honors, from Cairo University College of Medicine and her doctoral degree with distinction from the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. Her postdoctoral training as a Fellow of the American Heart Association was in the field of immune tolerance and bone marrow transplantation. She received research support from the Science and Technology Development Fund, American Heart Association, the National Institutes of Health, and several other foundations.

Dr. El-Badri was awarded 10 M EGP to establish the Center of Excellence for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at Zewail City of Science and Technology. She contributed more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and books in the field of stem cell biology and autoimmune disease. Dr. El-Badri has developed several undergraduate and graduate programs both at Zewail City and the University of South Florida. She received several research grants totaling more than $5 million, and several awards for her efforts in research and in promoting women in science. Her research interests include adult stem cell biology, autoimmune diseases, and women's health.

Dr. El-Badri has received several recognitions, including being elected as a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. and was recently awarded the Women in STEM Exemplary Leader in Management Position Award by Meera Kaul Foundation.
