Prof. Niveen M. Khashab

Associate professor of Chemistry - The Physical Sciences and Engineering Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST)

Biography

Professor Khashab is an Associate Professor in the Physical Sciences and Engineering Division at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, and applications of organic-inorganic hybrid materials that are porous and dynamically controlled by various stimuli, such as pH, light, magnet, and enzymes. Dr. Khashab and her team aim to develop systems that can be triggered on demand using self-assembly and supramolecular tools and her research has led to several publications in the field.

She received her doctoral degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Florida, under the mentorship of Prof. Alan R. Katritzky. She completed her post-doctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles, in Sir Fraser Stoddart’s laboratory, where her worked focused on designing and developing mechanized silica nanoparticles and molecular switches. In 2006, Dr. Khashab received the Crow award for Organic Innovation in 2006, and more recently, she received the AlMarai award for excellence in nanotechnology in the Middle East region. She is also the 2017 recipient of the L’Oreal-Unesco International Women in Science award.
