Mohammed V University

Professor El-Moursli received her doctoral degree in Physics from the University Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France and in 1982, she joined the Faculty of Sciences, at the Mohammed V University, in Rabat. She has served as the Head of the Laboratory of Nuclear Physics (LPNR) at the University, which led to the development of several initiatives in nuclear applications, including the implementation of the first Masters of Science in Medical Physics and in Renewable Energy in Morocco. More recently, Dr. El Moursli served as the Vice- President for Research, Innovation, Cooperation and Partnership at Mohammed V University in Rabat. Dr. El-Moursli has been a rapporteur and a jury member of 49 theses and co-authored more than 500 indexed scientific publications. She has served as a member of several committees within the university and at the national level.

Currently, she is coordinating two European Erasmus programs, plus projects for the development of innovation, such as the creation of the University Center for Entrepreneurship at the level of Mohammed V University. She is also the Moroccan project leader for the creation of an observatory of atmospheric air pollution on the mountains of Michlifen in Morocco. Dr. El Moursli is still of the 3 women resident members of the Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology, as well as a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences. She was also appointed as a member of International Council of Science (ICSU) Regional Office for Africa (ICSU / RCA). In 2016, the InterAcademy Council/InterAcademy Partnership for Research (IAP-R) nominated her as a member of the Committee on Harnessing Science, Engineering, and Medicine to Address Africa’s Challenges.

She is also one of the precursors of Morocco's official participation in the international collaboration ATLAS at CERN in Geneva in 1996, which was involved in the understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, which led to the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle in 2012. She was awarded the L'Oréal-UNESCO Prize Women in Science, for Africa and the Arab States in 2015, and elected as the woman of Year in Morocco by the magazine "Illi Des Libertés 2015".
