Dr. Fawzia Baba-Aissa

Genetic and neurophysiology

Dr. Baba-Aissa received her doctoral degree in Genetics at the University Paris-Diderot in France. She returned to Algeria in 1987, and contributed to the founding of the first Laboratory in Genetics in Algeria. In 1993, she went in Belgium to complete a second doctoral degree in Neurophysiology and was subsequently offered a position as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Burgundy in France. She has published several articles in the neurosciences domain.

In parallel, she has continued to be engaged in associations concerned with the women’s rights issues at an international level. In 2008, she created, along with a group of women, the Mediterranean Women’s Fund (MWF), a fund that provides financial help associations who working towards equality between women and men in the Mediterranean region. She was the first president of the MWF from 2008 to 2010 and was involved in the coordination and the organization of the first training program of Young Women Leaders in Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and France from 2013 to 2017. She is currently in charge of the development of the MWF.
