founder and Director of the Center for Advanced Materials at Qatar University
Professor Al-Maadeed is the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University (QU), was the founder and Director of the Center for Advanced Materials at QU, and Founder of the Master’s program in Materials Science and Technology at QU. She received a doctorate in Physics (Materials Science) from the University of Alexandria, Egypt in 2001 and joined the Department of Physics at QU in the same year. Professor Al-Maadeed has long experience and international recognition in the fields of polymers, nano-composite technologies and nanotechnology. She has published more than 130 research papers in international journals and conferences as well as book chapters, books and patents. Professor Al-Maadeed has received many research grants and is the lead investigator in several projects with a number of universities and institutions and corporations around the globe. She is an active member of professional associations in the field of science and administration.
She has taught several courses at the graduate and postgraduate level in addition to supervising many graduate dissertations at Qatar University and other international universities. As a consultant, Professor Al-Maadeed has presented several workshops for a variety of organizations in industry, government ministries, and society. She has chaired several conferences, and has been invited as a keynote speaker to several international conferences. She served as a member of several committees in Qatar and abroad. Professor Al-Maadeed has also worked as a reviewer for scientific journals and conferences.
Among her awards, Professor Al-Maadeed received the State Prize in Physics in 2010, the Plastic Excellence Award from the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association in 2014, and the Leadership Excellence Award for Women from the conference and exhibition of engineering for the Middle East in 2015. She is also a leading member of the Al-Bairaq team which won a WISE Award in 2015.
