Professor Cizewski is a Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. She received her doctoral degree from Stony Brook University, completed her postdoctoral work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Previously, she served on the faculty at Yale University. She joined the faculty at Rutgers in 1986 and was promoted to her current position in 2002. Her research focus is in experimental nuclear physics where she probes the properties of atomic nuclei far from stability using accelerated beams of stable and radioactive ions. She has mentored 16 graduate students and 16 postdoctoral scholars.
For 15 years Professor Cizewski has served Rutgers in various leadership positions in graduate education, including Acting Dean of the Graduate School with responsibility for all PhD degrees on the New Brunswick campus. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She was also a Sloan Foundation Fellow and received the National Science Foundation Faculty Award for Women.
