Prof. Cristina Flesia

Head of Research

Professor and Delegate of the rector to International Relations and Relations with European Union

Professor Flesia graduated from the University of Geneva (CH) in 1981 and she obtained her Doctorate ès Science from the Ecole Polythecnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1987. From 1991 to 1999, she was responsible for a research group on Atmospheric Physics at the Observatoire de Neuchâtel (CH), and further, as Assistant Professor, at the University of Geneva from 1994 to 1999. In 1999, she headed the new Space Laboratory of the Consorzio CEO in Florence (Italy), where the objective was to develop new space sensors in collaboration with the academic institutions and the industries. From 2002 to 2014, she served on the faculty of the University of Ferrara, and since 2014, she has been a Delegate of the Rector for International Relations and Relation with the European Union at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, Italy.

Professor Flesia has been responsible for more than 30 European and International programs in Atmospheric Science and Space Research. Her scientific collaborations have included the major Space and Atmospheric Agencies, such as the European Space Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the United States, the Russian Academy of Science, and the British Aerospace. She also collaborates with more than 40 primary scientific institutes in Europe, United States, Russia, and Japan. Her present research interests are in the field of space research and climate change processes.

Professor Flesia has been member of several international scientific committees in the field of Space Research, Atmospheric Research and Education in the United States and in Europe. In addition to international funding agencies, she has served as an evaluator and a panel member on the 4th (1994-1998), 6th (2003-2006), and 7th (2007-2010) European Commission Framework Program. Moreover, her recent interests are in devoting her experience, scientific and institutional knowledge and personal contacts to the development of the European Research International collaborations, with the Gulf States and China. In this frame, she is the Chair of the EU-GCC Science, Technology and Innovation Partnership, a dedicated program for cooperation between Europe and the Gulf States.
