Oliver Korn

Professor of Human Computer Interaction (HC), and director of the Affective & Cognitive Institute (ACI) - Offenburg University, Germany

Biography

Oliver Korn is a full professor of Human Computer Interaction (HC), and director of the Affective & Cognitive Institute (ACI) at Offenburg University, Germany. In the ACI, he bundles these fields together with an interdisciplinary research team. The overall vision is to enrich environments by intuitive interfaces, “intelligent” context-aware systems and playful applications, which adapt to both the users and the context. His research focus spans assistive technologies and robotics, effective computing, augmented, virtual and mixed reality, and gaming and gamification. His overall vision is to enrich our environments by intuitive interfaces, “intelligent” assistive systems and motivating games, which adapt to the users and the context. His work involves projects on the digital transformation of society, especially with respect to work. Prof. Korn is the founder and director of the software company KORION GmbH. He is also a certified Project Manager (German Chamber of Commerce), Senior Member of ACM and Professional Member of the IEEE. Previously he wa a senior researcher at University of Stuttgart, Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems (VIS). He has many publications in peer -reviewed journals on social robots, (playful coached learning in the STEM curriculum, and gamification of production. In 2017, he was appointed as the Senior Member by the Senior Member Committee Chair, Association of Computing Machinery (ACM); and in 2016 he was nominated as an Elected Member of AGYA Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
