Dr. Brett Lyons

Biography

Dr. Lyons is a Principal Scientist with more than 20 years’ experience in planning and implementing monitoring programmes for assessing the health of the marine environment. He has sat on National and International working groups developing and implementing marine monitoring programmes, and chaired the UK Government’s Clean Safe Seas Evidence Group (CSSEG) and was the English chair of the UK’s post oil spill monitoring body, the Premiam Monitoring Coordination Cell (PMCC). Dr Lyons has worked widely overseas and has managed programmes implementing marine monitoring programmes in the Middle East, South Pacific and Europe. He has published widely in the field of marine sciences, with over 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. In 2015 he was a guest editor, leading a special issue of Marine Pollution Bulletin titled ‘An Ecological Assessment of Kuwait's Marine Environment’. He has an H-index of 31 as calculated by Google Scholar and his papers have received over 3340 citations.
