Prof. Alistair Boxall

Biography

Alistair Boxall is Professor in Environmental Science at York University, UK. His research focuses on understanding emerging and future ecological and health risks posed by chemical contaminants in the natural environment. Alistair is a past member of the Defra (UK Government Department) Advisory Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee. He regularly advises national and international organisations on issues relating to chemical impacts on the environment and has published extensively on the topic of emerging contaminants (microplastics, pharmaceuticals, nanomaterials and veterinary medicines) in the environment. Alistair was co-ordinator of the 3.5 M Euro project 'CAPACITIE' which is explored methods for monitoring pollution in cities and was academic co-ordinator of the 10.3M Euro iPiE project on intelligent assessment of pharmaceuticals in the environment. His current research includes studies into: the impacts of chemical emissions from legacy waste sites; the potential risks of chemicals in the 2050s; approaches for assessing toxicity of mixtures; and new approaches for determining risks of pharmaceuticals in the environment. He has an H-index of 69 as calculated by Google Scholar and his papers have received over 21274 citations.
