Physical Oceanographer - Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Viviane V. Menezes is a physical oceanographer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. She holds a PhD in Marine Sciences (Physical Oceanography) from University of Tasmania in Hobart, Australia. In her PhD work, she examined the dynamics of the South Indian Ocean and the influence of salinity to set up its odd circulation pattern. Dr Menezes joined WHOI in October 2015 as a postdoctoral investigator. She is investigating the circulation and air-sea interaction in the Red Sea. Viviane is also investigating multi-decadal changes (freshening) in Antarctic bottom waters observed in the abyssal Southern Indian Ocean. Currently, she is the principal investigator in a new NSF-funded project to study the pathways of the Red Sea Overflow Water in the Indian Ocean.
