Dr. Ashraf Ramadan

Senior Research Scientist at KISR

Biography

Ashraf Ramadan obtained his Bachelor of Engineering Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Liverpool-UK. Having obtained a first-class honors degree with distinction, he was allowed to pursue his studies directly at the Ph.D. level. Working on an initially Defense Research Agency (DRA-UK) funded project, he was able to develop an empirical equation that characterizes the relaminarisation of 3-D turbulent flows on 60 degree-skewed aircraft wing, which lead to him obtaining his PhD from the University of Liverpool-UK in experimental fluid mechanics. He started his academic career at the University of Liverpool, then King’s College-London. He later joined City University-London as a Lecturer in Aerodynamics and was the Mechanical and Aerodynamics Engineering Course Director before moving to the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) in 2003. At KISR, he held the position of Air Quality Program Manager for five years and is currently holding the position of a Senior Research Scientist, which is equivalent to a full professor at university, specializing in air pollution modelling and monitoring. He is also the supervisor of Kuwait National Meteorological Network. At KISR, Ashraf has successfully executed many high-impact national-level projects including recommending Kuwait’s fourth refinery design value for the Sulphur content in the fuel used by the power plants and developing Kuwait’s first emission inventory.
