Overview

In this lecture we will discuss developing Kuwait's first emission inventory, a national high-priority project. We will discuss the objectives, the methodology adopted and the results obtained. A demonstration of the features of the developed system and the recommendations for future development work will be shared at the end of the talk.

Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has developed Kuwait’s first emission inventory. The emission calculations relied primarily on the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) AP 42 emission factors, resorting to other methodologies, e.g., Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme-European Environment Agency (EMEP-EEC), when necessary. Sectors included the petroleum industry (upstream and downstream), power generation, transportation (vehicles, ships, and airplanes), wastewater treatment plants, landfills, quarries, laundries, incinerators, and small industries, mostly privately-owned.
