Lia Sieghart

Program Leader and Lead Climate Change Specialist - World Bank

Biography

Dr. Lia Sieghart is Practice Manager for Middle East and North Africa and Afghanistan/Pakistan. Dr. Sieghart joined the World Bank in 2009 as a Senior Environmental Economist and has held various positions, including Program Leader, and Lead Climate Change Specialist. She was worked across the different regions of the World Bank, including Middle East and North Africa region (MNA) and South Asia Region (SAR). She has been deeply engaged in climate change issues with client countries to identify and address their climate change vulnerability. Prior to joining the Bank, Dr. Sieghart worked at the German Development Agencies (GIZ and CIM) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization delivering climate change programs across the globe - while also serving as a climate change negotiator to the UNFCCC. In her 17+ years of professional experience, Dr. Sieghart has worked in more than 40 countries and worked extensively in Fragile States. Dr. Sieghart has authored and published a wide range of climate change related articles in renowned journals. She holds a PhD and an MSc from the University of Salzburg (Austria) in cooperation with the University of Queensland (Australia) in Environmental Sciences.
